Details of the Program
This program aims to provide an opportunity to motivated undergraduate students from Asian countries to spend eight weeks in a research laboratory and undergo training at IIIT Hyderabad.
Research areas: Artificial intelligence/ Machine learning applications in fundamental sciences, drug design/ discovery, healthcare, cheminformatics, genomics and related areas.
Scholars will be paired with select research laboratories during their time at IIIT Hyderabad and they will work full-time on independent research projects under the guidance of the faculty members.
The scholars will receive receive financial support to cover their travel and stay, and will receive a stipend (details below).
The scholars will attend the program in full, attend weekly lectures, attend hands-on sessions, work on their research project and participate in all scientific/social activities.

Access to the facilities at IIIT Hyderabad.
Interact and collaborate with scientists and researchers, and make scientific contributions in the area of AI/ML applications in health, drug design & discovery and fundamental sciences.
Attend lectures, workshops, networking events and social gatherings; make presentations.
Explore Hyderabad, its history, culture, food, etc.
Support:
- Economy class flight ticket;
- Equivalent of USD 2,000 in Indian Rupees (half to be paid at the beginning of the program and the remaining at the end of the program);
- On-campus accommodation;
- Food or food allowance for most days.
- Undergraduate students (or equivalent) enrolled at a University in the Asia region (See: https://amgenscholars.com/asia-program/ for the list of all countries) who will return to their home institution for at least one semester to complete their undergraduate program after concluding the Amgen Scholars Program. They should have successfully completed at least one year of their undergraduate study by June 7, 2026.
- Undergraduate program could be in any discipline (eg. computer science, chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacology, etc.) with mathematics as one of the subjects; prior coding experience with a computer language desirable; should be motivated to learn programming.
- Applicants should be available full-time from June 7 to August 6, 2026 and should not be engaged in other courses/program/job/etc.
- Applicants are interested in pursuing PhD in the future
- Strong academic performance during their undergraduate program; prior research experience desirable but not mandatory
- Good working knowledge of English (read/write/speak) demonstrated by one of the following:
+ All the courses that you have done so far in the undergraduate program are taught in English. (OR)
+ Tests (TOEFL iBT score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC score of 1095, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310)
- Be available in person and stay in the IIIT Hyderabad campus during whole duration of the program.
- Sincerely undertake the 8-week research project in one of the research labs.
- Participate in all orientation/lectures/workshops/seminars/meetings/social events; Make presentations on topics assigned to the scholar.
- Present weekly report of the progress of the work, and submit a report on their research work at the end of the program and present their work.
- Participate and present their work in form of poster/talk in the Asia symposium planned at the University of Tokyo.
- Provide feedback in form of text, and video to IIIT Hyderabad and Amgen India, which may be used in websites/reports/social media/etc. Agree to be photographed during the program that may be used on websites/reports/social media/etc.
- Any IP that is resulting from the research work during the program will be assigned to IIIT Hyderabad.
- Apply for visa (if necessary) to enter the country, and obtain travel insurance for the whole duration of the program at their own expense.
